On May 2, just moments after JB the Donkey was born, his mother was the victim of a vicious, fatal shooting. A teenage boy turned himself in on May 7.

Various local media are covering this story, including the Pensacola News JournalNorth Escambia,  WEAR-TVWKRGWALA and  WPMI.

My name is Lindley Paxton Barden, and I am the secretary for Panhandle Equine Rescue. I am also JB’s foster mom. Because JB’s mother died before she was able to pass along immune-boosting colostrum, JB’s start in life is shaky. I’ve been feeding him every hour around the clock.

Slowly, he is getting stronger and even learning to play.
